Woollim Entertainment’s new boy duo, Tasty, finally released their debut mini-album yesterday titled Spectrum!
I was disappointed to hear that they only released three full-length songs and an intro, but I’m still excited to hear their music. Woollim has made a name for themselves based on the quality of their artists’ music: Infinte, NELL, JiSun, and formerly Epik High. Recently, I’ve had a sudden interest in watching Korean cable dramas because I found that they bear some semblance to the cable dramas that air here in the States. While strict laws set by the FCC have limited the stories that broadcast TV shows can make, they don’t apply to cable dramas where nudity is much more common and violence is much more common. While nothing like that has ever appeared on cable dramas in Korea (not that I’m an expert or anything), the quality of the storytelling is markedly better in cable shows. Also, they’re easier to digest because their running time is at least 15 minutes shorter than normal broadcast dramas (trust me, those 15 mins take up a lot of time!). As a result, the writing is usually tighter and there are less filler episodes. This year alone, I’ve watched three cable dramas that rank among my favorite of the year: Queen In Hyun’s Man, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, and I Need Romance 2. Last week, the new TVN drama Reply 1997 or Answer Me 1997 made its debut and I have to say I have very high hopes for this drama.
Today I was perusing k-pop websites when I came across a picture of Teen Top’s comeback. I had to stop to think for a second because I was so sure that they just had a comeback last month and in January. Well they did have two comebacks this year already and after confirming it, I really got annoyed.
It’s been two years since “Hurricane Venus” stormed the charts but BoA is finally back with her 7th Korean album. BoA is a highly respected veteran (I can’t believe she’s only 26! She’s been around for so long) and I’m sure many people will be keen to see how well she does. This release follows two of the biggest veteran idols’ returns this year (that’ll be Shinhwa and Se7en).
After a stellar year atop everyone’s list of favorite artists in 2011, Beast comes back with their fifth mini-album, “Midnight Sun.” Because I truly loved their last album, I have very high expectations for their next. Inevitably, when they’ve set such a high standard for themselves, people would want to hear more and would anticipate an album that is as good as their previous one (Gee I wonder how Adele will follow up her album, that’s got to be a tall order).
The Brown Eyed Girls are finally making their comeback and I am one happy lady. Continue reading
I really feel as though there should be a limit to the number of girl groups debuting each year. There’s been a gazillion debuts this year (i.e. GLAM, Hello Venus, PURETTY, Tahiti, Spica, etc.) and there are a couple more planned for later this summer. I really do make an attempt to listen to their music without judging, but so far…it’s all just so bad. Clarence and I made the mistake of listening to Brave Girls, and it made me want to shoot myself. Continue reading

Although I haven’t written a WTF post for a pretty long time, I saw something recently that inspired me.
I watched the music video for the title track of Super Junior’s new album, Sexy, Free and Single a couple days ago. As much as I tried to focus on the song, I was completely distracted by their…let’s call it “fashion choice”. Now, I understand that these days, the wackier your MV is, the more attention it garners (i.e 2NE1′s “I’m the Best, Sunny Hill’s “Midnight Circus”). However, while some artists can pull it off, others cannot. SJ being a prime example. Continue reading
